The third annual Kingston meeting of members of the Turkish community took place on January 30, 2011 at the Kingston Banquet & Conference Centre. Nearly thirty attendees from Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston, Montreal and Halifax took part in the meeting, including representatives from Council of Turkish Canadians and the Federation of Canadian Turkish Associations.

With a focus on the lobbying efforts of the Turkish community, those in attendance recounted initiatives and activities undertaken over the past year, then contemplated and discussed what needed to be prioritized and initiated in the future. In light of the upcoming one hundredth anniversary in 2015 of the alleged 'genocide,' committees were formed to address: coordinating the Turkish community's activities; strategizing; organizing a 3-day adult conference/retreat; fundraising; and preparing readily available educational resources.

Breakfast and lunch were served during this full-day meeting, and many thanks must go to Chair Murat Saatcioglu and Bora Hincer for their organizational efforts.

The 4th Annual Turkish Canadian Youth Congress took place January 14-16, 2011 in Vancouver. Organized by Council of Turkish Canadians, the theme of the conference was "Turkish Heritage and Identity in Canadian Society," and served as a venue for Canadian youth of Turkish origin and of other ethnic/cultural backgrounds to learn about Turkish heritage, history and values, and to network with those in attendance.

This was also a great opportunity for the young at heart (like Executive Director Ilke Hincer) to establish contacts with the youth and to learn from such presenters as Dr. Justin McCarthy (whose presentation focused on 'Countering the Historical Falsehood' with respect to the Armenian issue), Ergun Kirlikovali ('Challenges Facing us in North America'), Dr. Ozay Mehmet ('Turkish Foreign Policy: New Directions'), Dr. Umut Uzer ('Identity and Turkish Foreign Policy'), Lale Eskicioglu ('Election Process') and Alper Caglayan ('Compassionate Communication'). Scott Taylor was also in attendance to talk about his documentaries 'Locked Up Abroad: Iraq' and 'Afghanistan: Outside the Wire.'

Mr. Hincer also gave a speech on behalf of the Federation during the opening night reception. Dr. Kevser Taymaz, FCTA Vice President (External Relations) and on the Board of Directors of CTC, worked tirelessly throughout the conference to make sure things ran smoothly. And a letter promoting the Federation was written and distributed by Mr. Hincer to the 130 youth who attended the Youth Congress.
